Strapping, Dashing and Virile is the debut CD from Richmond, Va's
Slap Daddy Derelix. Slap Daddy Derelix mix heavy guitars with pounding
bass and drum grooves and strong vocals for a hard-hitting high energy
sound.
Putting a fresh spin on metal is no mean feat these days, in the wake of punk, hardcore, glam-metal and grunge. (Not to mention Pat Boone). Slap Daddy Derelix is trying, nonetheless, with some standard-issue tools like an apocalyptic thundering bass, a popping open snare drum, and wall-of-guitar....[and songs like] the chilling "Dr. Kervorkian's Love Ballad, " which sounds like a Lenny Kravitz-ish melding of rap and metal, where absolutely brilliant lyrics are spat out with furious vigor, accompanied by a sneering chorus and a mockingly lithe chord progression. I won't quote a line from this song since it is lyrically perfect from beginning to end and certainly the opus of this album. Slap Daddy Derelix manages to re-use some old traditional metal methodology to good effect. -Killer Montone, Richmond Music Journal |
