Route One South History

The Route One South Music Conference and Festival was founded in 1995 by Daniel Deckelman and Brett Cassis, both veterans of the Richmond music scene. Deckelman, originally from New York, has been performing since 1982 with bands such as the Service, Mudd Helmut, and currently with Rocket 69. He has played an active role in the community with efforts such as the Richmond City Paper, Richmond Music Co-operative Vol. 3 and Snake Oil Records.

Cassis has been an avid promoter, helping in the development of the Richmond music scene for over 10 years. His accomplishments include booking and promoting a number of successful outdoor festivals and the Flood Zone, a premier live music venue. Together the two have managed to construct an event that no only develops the music industry in this region, but also captures attention from around the nation. Positive support received from the industry, the press, and the local community have resulted in quickly establishing a foot hold as a nationally recognized industry event.
